How each system bets
- Flat betting
- The same bet every time. The baseline the others are measured against.
- Martingale
- Double the bet after every loss, so one win recovers everything lost so far; back to the base bet after a win.
- Paroli (reverse Martingale)
- Double the bet after every win and go back to the base bet after a loss or after three wins in a row.
- Fibonacci
- Bet along 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8… units: one step up after a loss, two steps back after a win.
- D’Alembert
- One unit more after a loss, one unit less after a win.
- Labouchère
- Write a line (1 2 3 4), bet the first plus the last number, cross both off after a win and add the bet to the end after a loss.
Why no system can win
Every bet has the same house edge whatever came before it: 2.70% on a red bet at a single-zero wheel, 1.06% on banker at baccarat. A progression only decides how much you bet each time, so your average loss is the edge times everything you wagered.
Martingale makes small, frequent wins by risking a rare, huge loss. A streak of losses doubles the bet until it hits the table maximum or your bankroll, and one such streak wipes out many small wins.
Over enough sessions the two balance exactly: the loss per unit bet settles on the house edge, as the convergence chart shows for every system.
