Pai Gow Poker questions
How to set the hands players ask about, each answered with the value of every setting against a house-way dealer.
- When should you split two pair in Pai Gow Poker?
Usually: put the lower pair in front and the higher pair behind. Keep both pairs behind only when they are small and you have an ace, or with the smallest pairs a king, to put in front.
- Should you set your own hand or use the house way in Pai Gow?
The house way is a fine default: it sets most hands the best way. Setting every hand perfectly lowers the house edge only a little, so learn the few hands where it goes wrong rather than fighting it.
- How often do you push in Pai Gow Poker?
About two hands in five, more than you win or lose. You need to beat the dealer with both hands to win, so splitting the two hands, one each, is the most common result.
- What do you do with three pairs in Pai Gow Poker?
Put the highest pair in front and the other two pairs behind. That beats every other setting, even when the odd card is an ace.
- Should you split a full house in Pai Gow Poker?
Yes: three of a kind behind and the pair in front. The exception is a very small pair with an ace and a king to play in front; then keep the full house behind.
- Should you split four of a kind in Pai Gow Poker?
Split jacks or better into two pairs. Keep 2s through 6s together. With 7s through 10s, split unless you have an ace or king to put in front.
- Should you split three of a kind in Pai Gow Poker?
Split three aces: a pair of aces behind and the third ace in front. Split three kings too when your other cards are low. Keep any other three of a kind together behind, with your two best other cards in front.
